ENTERPRENEURSHIP IN CULTURE

The choice of entrepreneurship and the individual entrepreneur in culture as an object of interest for this research, stemmed from the great interest in this phenomenon highly important in cultural development. Beside the theoretical and empirical views, and understanding of the subject, the most important aspect is the understanding of the problematic relationship of cultural policy towards entrepreneurship in culture. In the first part of this paper we briefly discuss different theoretical approaches to the study of entrepreneurship in culture. To study the social phenomenon of cultural entrepreneurship it is necessary to start with basic entrepreneurship in any sphere of social activity. In this paper, a brief overview of important theoretical approaches in field of entrepreneurship is also presented. The only answer to the question „Who are entrepreneurs in cultural entrepreneurship?“ this research gave is that such a person must be a visionary character, even though at times be labelled a daydreamer. The second part of this research examines the transformation that, with the arrival of political changes, transformed the Exit Festival from the cultural and artistic event organized in protest against the political regime, into one of the best music festivals in the world. That transformation is the result of a high concentration of the ability to create new values, according to new needs of society, and it represents an example of entrepreneurship in culture. To define cultural entrepreneurship, to show all its characteristics, and to show the desire to reveal a psychological profile of the cultural entrepreneur will certainly be examined in further researches. This paper gives basic directions for future efforts in the field.

MEDIA, CULTURE GLOBALIZATION AND IDENTITY PRESERVATION

Today, globalized media are not only means of transportation which transfer culture from one part of the world to the other, but first of all they are instruments by which few so called „global players“ – owners try to achieve cultural and information hegemony. To these big players in Serbia, from different reasons, are added numerous small or bigger media owners who uncritically follow the imposed behavioral patterns and practice. In this paper the author presents the part of his extensive empirical research entitled „The international influence of political elite, new owners, editors and journalists and their reflection on the social changes in Serbia at the begining of the 21st century“ describing the consequences of Serbian globalized media influence on culture and ethnic identity. The need of more active role of journalists in these hard, transitional, times is specially pointed out.

NATURAL STATE OF MULTICULTURALISM

The paper leaps through the very actual topic of multiculturalism today. This ever inexhaustible field has become very interesting in other forms of research too. The text does not deal with the educational system directly or in great detail but it does aim at reviewing multiculturalism in the context of education and the significance of knowing more cultures and speaking more languages.

REGIONAL CULTURAL COOPERATION IN SOUTHEAST EUROPE

The progress of renewing different forms of cooperation in the Southeast Europe region, especially as a part of European integrations, has instigated ideas for this project. The project analyses the cultural cooperation among the Southeast Europe countries, and the focus is on analyzing the cultural connections and cooperation among the countries of former Yugoslavia. The target of the project is to analyze the mechanisms of establishing the cooperation in this region, which represents the specific cultural unit within Europe, and to indicate whether the cooperation in this region differs from the cooperation among the other countries out of this region, and to what extent, i.e. to specify the differences of connections established in this region. The notion of Southeast Europe is not used in purely geographical sense in this project: it matches the geographical territory of Southeast Europe, but also refers to the countries that were chosen on the basis of their cultural connections. That way they form cultural relatively defined, distinctive region. Therefore, the specificity of this cooperation was crucial for this choice. Additionally, the project analyses to what extent the existence of mutual cultural identity in this region can be discussed.
