RECEPTION OF BIOETHICS IN SERBIA

The aim of this work is to familiarize the reader with the presence and development of bioethics in Serbia. First, the introduction analyzes the term of bioethics and considers its disciplinary founding. In order to give as full a picture of the actual state of bioethics in Serbia as possible, its reception is considered from two main standpoints: the standpoint of the bioethical education and the standpoint of relevant legal regulations and institutionalization. Attention is also drawn to certain omissions in the approach to bioethical issues, with special view of the questions of cloning and euthanasia, and to moments that should contribute to its full scientific and institutional affirmation.

ALGORITHMS, CATEGORIES AND PROOFS: SOME TOPICS IN MODERN SERBIAN LOGIC

In this paper we focus on two branches of modern logic, computability theory and proof theory, tracing their development in Serbia from the end of World War II to this day. Owing to the unfortunate set of circumstances, computability theory did not give birth to a school in Serbia. Proof theory, on the other hand, found a base in Belgrade as one of the few places in the world promoting Gentzen’s ideas, especially in the field of categorial proof theory which will be our sole interest in this work.

OF OLDER SERBIAN LOGIC

In this paper we aim to pinpoint some of the key markers of the development of logic in Serbia, starting from the founding of the Lyceum in 1836 until the end of the 19th century. Our main goal is to underline the role that Ljubomir Nedić, a philosopher and literary critic, had in this context. Although he did not leave any original contributions in logic, Nedić played a significant part by exposing contemporary results in symbolic logic, which were to lead, through Frege’s later work, to the creation of modern logic.

ON ALLEGED RIGHT OF THE CULTURE OF PHILOSOPHY TO BE CONSIDERED DISTINCT AND INTRANSITIVE

This paper presents and analyzes the Rorty’s diachronous threading of “cultures”: religious, philosophical and literary. Particular attention is given to the difference between the cultures of philosophy and literature and to the conclusion that the difference is not as significant as Rorty claims. The characteristics that Rorty attributes to the „unredemptive” literary culture, emancipated from obsession either with God or the Truth, do not separate it from the actual culture of philosophy. It seems to be quite the opposite: the two “cultures” by their genre are less exclusive and without transcendental support, and are combined in modernity through polysemious but analogous, inspirational and uncertain exploration of their status and vocation.

CONTEMPLATION OF THE RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE IN CONTEMPORARY SERBIAN AND SOCIAL THOUGHT

Following the dissolution of the SFRY, and in the light of new social circumstances, the religious communities have new social status and new social role; they have come out from the private sphere and found its place in the public one. Religious tolerance is more significant in the context of desecularization of social life, both for the religious communities themselves, and for other social actors and the society as a whole. With this in mind, the goal of this paper is to analyse theoretical views and definitions of the notion of religious tolerance in the papers of domestic authors– philosophers, representatives of social sciences as well as theologians. In addition to the analysis of the impact of social context, the relation between monotheism and in/tolerance is also analysed, whereas a doctrinaire aspect, i.e. the content of the sacred texts, is contemplated as well. A consideration is given to the possible subjects of the religious tolerance, and a problem of paternalism is pointed out in the speeches on religion stressing the importance of the mutual appreciation and respect among the actors of the dialogue communication. In accordance with the current views on im/possibility of the tolerance among different denominations, that is, religions, due to their different standpoints on the man’s path to salvation, emphasize is given to the difference between valuing cognition and valuing an actor – individuals, communities and social groups.

ON NECESSITY OF STANDARDIZATION OF SERBIAN ONTOLOGICAL TERMINOLOGY

The intention of this paper is to point out a troublesome situation in contemporary Serbian ontological terminology, and also to indicate the ways and pre-conditions in terms of history of philosophy, history of language and methodology in searching for possible solutions. We are also trying to cast some light on the problem of relationship between language and philosophical thinking.
